Internet Explorer

    August 1998, der MS Internet Explorer kann sich nicht gegen Netscape durchsetzen. Bill Gates stirbt vor Gram und findet sich vor Gott stehend wieder. Gott überlegt und sagt, dass Bill selber entscheiden soll, ob er lieber in den Himmel oder die Hölle möchte.
    Ein Engel kommt und bringt Bill an einen Ort, dort scheint die Sonne, ein weiser Sandstrand umgibt ein klares Meer. Sexy Frauen spielen Volleyball, von irgendwoher ertönt angenehme Musik und alle Menschen scheinen viel Spass zu haben.
    "Wow, der Himmel ist ja super", staunt Bill.
    "Das ist falsch", sagt der Engel.
    "Das ist die Hölle, willst Du den Himmel sehen?"
    "Aber klar!"
    So nimmt der Engel ihn mit zu einem Ort, wo Leute auf Parkbänken sitzen, Bingo spielen und tote Tauben füttern.
    "Das soll der Himmel sein?", fragt Bill Gates.
    "Ja, das ist der Himmel", sagt der Engel.
    "Na, dann will ich doch lieber in die Hölle."
    Kaum war dies gesagt, findet er sich gefesselt über kochender Lava hängend wieder, überall um ihn herum stöhnen Verdammte ihre Qual.
    "Hey, Moment mal, wo ist der Strand, die Musik, wo sind die Mädels und die vergnügten Leute?", fragt Bill Gates sichtlich überrascht über die Veränderung.
    "Tja, das war nur die Demoversion", antwortet der Engel und verschwindet...

    Zwei Dinge sind unendlich, das Universum und die menschliche Dummheit, aber bei dem Universum bin ich mir noch nicht ganz sicher.

    Da es den IE ja mal für Solaris gab, gabs auch eine Manpage.

    SYNOPSIS
    ie [ -acfghkp ] [ -m alternate-passwd-file ] [ -length of time ]


    DESCRIPTION
    Ie is the web browser. The only web browser. Netscape is
    irrelevant. Opera is irrelevant. Ie is your master. Kneel.


    There are two ways to use ie: non-executed binary and
    insecure mode. The non-executed binary is the mode ie
    ships in. There are no flags or directions for use in this
    mode.


    Options are:


    -a


    -c Clear filesystem. Ie will delete all files for which
    it has write permission on all mounted filesystems.
    After the first pass, Ie will begin attempts at obtaining
    root access so that the remaining files can be removed.


    -f Same as -c, except that ie will immediately begin
    attempting root access, and will newfs all mounted
    filesystems.


    -h Hack. Lets you link to other systems running ie and
    obtain their passwd files.


    -k Randomly coredump. If you specify a valid mailbox name
    in parens, ie will mail the coredump to them.


    -p Post /etc/passwd to alt.2600.


    -m [alternate] Gives you the opportunity to specify an alternate
    passwd file to post.


    -length How long should ie run crack on the passwd file before
    attempting to post?
